Sometimes called “ear surgery” or “ear pinning,” otoplasty is a procedure to reshape and/or reposition prominent or protruding ears.
Otoplasty is an outpatient surgical procedure available at our Santa Fe office. We utilize local anesthesia and also conscious sedation to establish patient comfort. Conscious sedation induces an altered state of consciousness that minimizes pain and discomfort through the use of pain relievers and sedatives. Patients, who receive conscious sedation usually are able to speak and respond to verbal cues throughout the procedure, communicating any discomfort they experience to the provider. It allows patients to recover quickly and resume normal daily activities in a relatively short period of time.
The procedure itself is performed through a well-concealed incision behind the ear. Sometimes cartilage is removed, reshaped, or augmented to correct the position of the outside ear. Scarring is almost unnoticeable, the surgery will not affect the hearing in any way, and the change will be permanent.
Our private operating facility guarantees top-level medial care and comfort. Many of our patients have confirmed for us that this particular surgical procedure has had a tremendous impact on their overall confidence and wellbeing.
A wound dressing, that supports healing and provides wound protection is placed over the affected area, and will stay in place for several days. No pressure should be applied on the affected ears for about a week.
The average cost of a bilateral otoplasty (both ears) is $3,550. Prices may vary depending on the specific procedure required to achieve the desired outcome.
